Description: Restylane® and Perlane are both non-animal based, non-collagen, dermal fillers. The product consists of hyaluronic acid which is a gel that we naturally secrete in our joints to provide volume and elasticity. Essentially the difference between them is in the thickness of the gel (eg. deep lines/fullers lips may be more suitable for the thicker Perlane). As we age our levels of hyaluronic acid deplete, hence facial lines appear and sometimes the face appears tired with ’sagging’. They can be used for any lines or wrinkles on the face and are ideal for redefining or providing volume to the lips with no danger of causing a ’troutpout’.
Procedure: The dermal filler is simply injected into the area required after careful discussion with the doctor. For wrinkle treatment no pain relief is necessary, but clients always have a choice between anaesthetic cream on the area or a local anaesthetic of the kind one might have at the dentist. Treatment takes about half an hour and the effect is immediate but common reactions such as swelling, redness and sometimes bruising should be expected all of which normally disappear within 2-3 days.
Safety: All dermal fillers are non-animal based and therefore extremely safe with very rare reports of allergic reaction (unlike collagen). The product is biodegradable into carbon dioxide and water.
Duration: Effects usually last about 6-9 months. Most clients choose to have a follow up treatment at around 6-12 months.
